Massimo - the posable, adjustable armor stand

This stand was built by Robert MacPherson.

This is one of the most flexible and adaptable stands out there. It could be used for armor storage or display, but it can also be used when building armor. It is posable and extendible so that it can mimic different people, and it lots of cool positions. The flexibility does come at the cost of some structural integrity.

The first image shows the whole stand. Later images show details of the construction of the joints that allow it to be adjusted for size and to different positions. The detail images start from the top and move down through the stand.

These show how the neck works. This allows for the head to raised and lowered, and for the neck to bend in a way that properly mimics the vertebrae.

This shows a detail of the way the elbow is constructed to mimic the form of the forarm and to allow the elbow to bend. At the top of the images you can see the slot in the plywood that engages the other layers allowing the upper arm to be adjusted for length.

This shows a detail of the hip joint. This construction allows the joint to bend forward and backward, and to rotate to allow the leg to change angles.

This shows a detail of the way the ankle and calf are constructed. This allows the ankle to bend and the calf to be extended to mimic different heights.

This shows a detail of the pieces that were made to allow the joints to lock in place. The primary feature is the cast brass disks that have ridges that lock together. These were cast using poker chips as a form.
