Sword belt mount 1500-1700
Copper alloy. Formed of two pieces that hook together. Cusped decoration on edges and vertical ridges with roped decoration. Similar to the remaining half recorded in Portable Antiquities Scheme as WAW-1562E8. Read type 1. Read 2008: 208-209, refs: 753-755 Hooked-Clasps and Eyes: A classification and Catalogue of Sharp-or Blunt-hooked claps and Miscellaneous Hooks, Eyes, Rings or Toggles. Together with some related similar parts of others. One apparently tinned. The first set illustrated appear to be complete and an actual pair. In the next line appear two parts (unrelated) the left probably whole and tinned, the right appears to have been the frame portion, but it has lost its rectangular slot. The third row shows another set that at least work together. The left part probably complete, the right missing most of its decorative mount.
